What started off as a bet between two mates, has evolved into a national mens clothing brand, being sold at high profile retail stores like David Jones and Glue Store.
Founded in 2003 by Jonathan Yeo and Leith Testoni, Zanerobe have succeeded by finding a niche in the retail market, as well as understanding their point of difference from other clothing brands. The pieces by Zanerobe showcase bold arty designs, neutral colourings and grungy fabrics, focusing on urban street wear for men.
Creators Testoni and Yeo admit that although the road to the top has been successful, it was not hurdle free. “It’s rather daunting going from a business idea over a beer to facing a major production invoice in your first season, explains Jono. ‘It’s a great problem to have, but one that required constant problem solving.’ Adds Leith. Despite minor problem solving issues, it can be seen through their designs that the brand is able to reflect strength and masculinity effortlessly, without their need for overdone embellishment and logos.
Their most recent development is the release of their first eyewear collection. The designs are part of their Spring/Summer collection of 2011, forming a platform in which they will work with in collaboration with new apparel designs. The sunglasses range from wayfarer, aviators and flat top brim designs, all with basic colourings of tortoiseshell, gunmetal and black. The sleek lines and classic framing of the eyewear will make the combination of Zanerobe clothing and accessories seamless, completing their looks from head to toe.
It is a perfect time, at the height of their career, for Zanerobe to release an eyewear collection. It is only a successful brand such as this that is able to branch out into a new genre, expanding their product range as well as their target market.
