The world’s first zero waste beauty brand
I place high value on the health of our planet, and also on the health of my hair and skin. The good news is – the two are no longer mutually exclusive thanks to the world’s first zero waste beauty brand – Ethique.
Aware of what’s good for your body, what’s seeping down the drain into our waterways and what’s ending up in landfill, New Zealand founder Brianne West created Ethique out of her frustrations with the unsustainable nature of mainstream beauty brands. Ethique’s products are all made from natural, ethically sourced ingredients rewarding both your body and your conscience.
Determined to #giveupthebottle, Ethique’s entire revolutionary range is presented in bar format – like a bar of soap – and in compostable cardboard packaging. This impressively excludes the need for traditional wasteful packaging. In fact, they’ve saved 3.3 million plastic bottles from ending up in landfill so far.
I discovered Ethique whilst searching for sustainable hair-care and was at first skeptical. I’d tried natural products before and found the quality lacking. But it was love at first wash, with the Ethique formula performing even better than some salon brands.
Shampoo
The range has eight delicious shampoos to choose from, so there’s a beauty bar for every hair type, and all of them are a divine treat for the senses. Easily building to a delightfully soft, fluffy lather the bar format allows you to easily use just the right amount of product for your hair length. My go to is the Damage Control Shampoo for dry/damaged hair, with the peppermint scent evoking feelings of freshness and revival, while leaving locks gently yet thoroughly cleansed.
Conditioner
The conditioner range proves just as satisfying, with two nourishing options to choose from, for dry/damaged or oily/normal hair. Working the product through wet hair by gently wiping the bar down the length, your hair feels instantly encased in silk and soaks up that delicious natural goodness. Having coloured hair, I favour the The Guardian bar made up of cocoa butter, coconut oil and zesty lime. The resulting shine is noticeable, my hair has never looked better.
Of course, we want to look after our bodies and the planet, but we want to look after our bank accounts as well. Despite the apparent small size of each bar, they last much longer than a traditional bottle of body wash or shampoo because they’re more concentrated – a bar can last up to five times longer in fact. And the best part, it’s easy to use every last drop of product – no more shaking the bottle to try and get that last portion out.
Previously only available online, the good news is Ethique is now stocked by Priceline throughout Australia, making sustainable, ethical beauty accessible and affordable.
Look your best and feel amazing about your positive buying choices.
