Children’s Guide to Mother’s Day

Every day is children’s day but once a year we have Mother’s Day, so it’s a time for our mums to feel extra special, to see how amazing their children are and how wonderfully they’ve raised them!

Ideally in the perfect world, once we reach a certain age, we move out of home, our Mothers can finally rest and have less stress. Wrong.

Last weekend my mum told me the most stressful time in her life was the first three months of me moving out of home.

I didn’t think much of it at the time, but mothers do so much behind the scenes and we tend to forget to thank them for doing literally EVERYTHING.

This is the one day we should let our beloved mothers kick back, not have to lift a finger and enjoy a day of pure freedom and happiness surrounded by her loved ones.

Last year my mum rang me asking what I wanted her to cook for my sister and me on Mother’s Day. As I was answering her question, it occurred to me that it should have been the other way around!

So with Mother’s Day just around the corner I’m here to give you a little insight into what you can do to make sure you’re really ticking off those boxes for your mum!

  1. CLEAN

One thing I think all mums would appreciate, and it sucks for us as children, is to clean the house while she watches a movie on the couch eating ice-cream.

Do the dishes, vacuum, dust the house, do the washing and don’t ask her a single question in the process.

  1. COOK

You don’t need to be master chef for this, but it would be nice to make your mum a home cooked meal or if your really, really incompetent in the kitchen, then order a nice meal and set up the dinner table for either a nice lunch or dinner.

Whatever you do, do not, I repeat, DO NOT make your mum cook.

  1. ACTIVITY

Unless your mum is an adrenaline junkie, don’t go booking indoor skydiving tickets something you and your mates would like to do.

Ask your mum (before the day) what it is she’s interested in, maybe you can buy tickets to a show, or visit the museum or art gallery, even check out if there are any food festivals on nearby – you must pay for her entry and shout her/do not let her pay for you! Ever! (On Mother’s Day that is)

  1. GIFT

A little goes a long way… You don’t need to spend a fortune, some flowers, and chocolate would be perfect!

If you want to really spoil your mum buy her a voucher to her favourite shop, a perfume, or even day spa voucher.

  1. SIBLINGS

Communicate with your siblings before hand, a friend of mine came up with a great idea to recreate old photos for their mother and put them in a large frame, which is not only adorable, but hilarious!Children's Guide to Mother's Day 4

It’s little things like that, that make your mum feel really appreciated.

Don’t forget to be polite and show your manners, refrain yourself from uploading spiels on Facebook and say it to her face!

Happy Mother’s Day everyone, spoil our lovely mothers!
