THE NATIONAL GALLERY TO JOIN FORCES WITH DR. MARTENS NEW COLLABORATION TO
HONOUR ARTISTS WHO DEFIED CONVENTION: MONET, VAN GOGH AND SEURAT

With artists such as Basquiat and Keith Haring, the brand continues its series of convention-
breaking collections. Here these three bold paintings are featured on DM’s Original silhouettes. In a collaboration with London’s renowned National gallery, Dr Martens brings some of Europe’s finest paintings to Australian streets. With four limited-edition pieces, the collection fuses acclaimed DM’s silhouettes with creative artwork by artists who broke the rules. In the collection, you’ll find works by artists like Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Georges Seurat, who avant-garde techniques have inspired artists for centuries.

Dr.Martens Van Gogh

Van Gogh was hardly credited in his time for his bold colour scheme and expressive brushwork. However, it was only after his death in 1890 that he was recognised as one of the greatest figures in history of western art. His iconic Sunflowers painting is printed all over the Original 1460 8-eye boot – complete with brushed gold eyelets, dark brown laces and signature DM’s yellow welt stitching.

Oscar-Claude Monet’s was the origination of impressionist art derived form his painting “Impression”. Paintings like “The WaterLily Pond” demonstrates Monet’s quest to document the French countryside with his desire to catch the changing light and seasons through re-paintings. Here the classic piece is printed on the 1461 3- eye shoe and paired with brushed silver eyelets, black laces and yellow welt stitching.

Georges-Pierre Seurat created a technique known as pointillism, which is best known for his painting of post-impressionism. A pistons for logical abstraction combined with a sense of extreme sensibility was meant to be incompatible. However, Seurat was able to make it work. This creativity and almost mathematical precision can be seen in works like Bathers at Asnie Ěres reprinted here on the 1461 3-eye shoe.

A Dr. Martens backpack featuring the three artists’ works is constructed from hard-wearing Backhand Strawgrain leather and antique gold hardware, with 2 compartments and fully adjustable straps.
