Bondi can be a little tourist dominated in summer. Unless you get there at 8am, finding a secluded spot on the beach on a sunny Sunday is almost impossible. Although it is our most famous, beaches (within the same amount of driving time) that offer more a more secluded experience, with just as much ‘beachy’ vibe as some of those more well known.
Austi Beach is located in Austinmer on the south coast of New South Wales near Woolongong. The beach is and sidewalks are buzzing with friendly locals, as well as travelers passing by. Due to it’s location on the south coast, the weather isn’t as humid as Sydney, with less hustle and bustle and nowhere near as much traffic.
Austi Beach Café is a must see when you’re visiting or staying in Austinmer. Situated right on the beach, the café is known for its thick, creamy gelato and excellent breakfast menu. If you’re stopping to each, try the pancakes with fresh berries and ricotta, or a hazelnut gelato after a swim in the ocean.
If it’s scenery you’re after, Bulli Pass lookout offers spectacular views of Austinmer and Thiroul beach, sky scraping cliff faces and a gleaming ocean beneath you. If it’s a mild and calm day, you’ll probably spot hang-gliders sailing off of the cliff edge.
All in all, Austinmer is a buzzing and breathtaking place to visit this summer, especially for those of you who want to avoid crowds and experience a little untouched niche of coastal NSW.
