New research from Blackmores indicates that 47% of Aussies feel that restrictions and extended lockdowns, have indeed impacted their exercise regime and the way they move. Everyday Australians have had to work around their usual routines just to keep active, Blackmores is encouraging Aussies to listen to their bodies and find movement that works for them. Blackmores kicked off their active movement initiative with the free ‘Blackmores Virtual Sydney Running Festival‘. The event usually brings over 40,000 people together, with the opportunity to run across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This year, participants instead, took to their local streets until Sunday 17th October, to run or walk 3.5km, 10km, 21km or 42km within their local neighbourhood.
Blackmores has partnered up with journalist, Television presenter and busy mum of three, Carrie Bickmore. “For me, exercise is one of the best ways to combat stress, I move for my mind as much as my body. I’ve had to get creative with new ways of moving in the past 18 months due to restrictions. With gyms closed and limitations on time outdoors, plus juggling remote learning
and work, I noticed exercise was one of the first things to disappear from my week. But I am
happy to be back moving more, going for walks with the kids, working out in the driveway
and going for bike rides”, says Carrie.
“When I am feeling tired or mentally drained, I take it easy. But I know I feel so much better when I move so I am getting back into it slowly, especially with the weather getting warmer.”

The new Blackmores research also revealed that since restrictions were put in place, an alarming 40% of the nation are suffering more from niggles, those small aches and pains. Research has also found almost one in four Australians don’t have enough time to implement rest and recovery into their routines, things like stretching, hydration or taking supplements.
Additionally, 12.4% of Australians don’t consider rest and recovery important to their everyday routine, and 1 in 5 only incorporate it into their routines if they are sore, yet rest and recovery is absolutely imperative to repairing, rebuilding and strengthening muscles.
Supporting Australians from around the country to continually move, Blackmores has brought on Sam Wood, 28 by Sam Wood Founder and leading health and fitness expert, as an ambassador to help Aussies find a movement and recovery routine that makes them feel good.
“2020 and 2021 have made for some serious revisions in daily routines. But daily exercise is so vital to maintaining healthy bodies, healthy minds and happy souls. To help make daily movement stick, I encourage Aussies to move in a way that suits them, whether that be a HIIT workout or yoga at home, running or walking, or dancing in the living room with your kids… And on top of that, remember to incorporate some sort of recovery – gentle stretching, walking and meditation are going to help your body recover after bursts of activity,” Sam Wood says.
