At first glance, Undone seems like another watch company – they have an online site and have a seemingly good range of products. However, by diving deeper into the company’s site and product line, you will find a new kind of luxury that is relatively affordable and certainly value for money. Firstly, what sets Undone apart from other watch labels is the ‘made to order’ feature that signifies their brand. Undone, established in 2014, make custom, tailor-made watches. The customisation is incredible with the options and choice range feeling endless. From colour, material, design, and even customisation of the watch case, everything is up to you. When choosing your watch type, there are three base designs: Urban, Aqua, and Basecamp.
The Urban design is a minimalist look, but still holds the vintage feel that some of us love in our watches. The Aqua, however, has more features and is designed for durability rather than aesthetic, though it keeps a slick and professional feel. With an automatic winding mechanism and rugged, outdoorsy look, the Aqua is an explorer’s watch. Finally, the Basecamp would best be described as a militant watch. With a simple design, yet sturdy feel that – true to its name – looks like it belongs on a military basecamp.
However, the knockout design of Undone, for me, is the collection of collaboration watches. Undone has released a collection that includes designs and details from animation styles such as Moomin or the aesthetic of Piranha Tattoo Studios. Undone even have a collaboration with Peanuts, including fantastic designs inspired by Charlie Brown and Snoopy.
However, if you’re not one for customisation then Undone can still be the watch brand for you. With a line of premade watches, you can skim through their collection and find what you’re looking for. For example, the Sport Tropical watch, sitting at $289 USD, is described by Undone as the ‘Ultimate Racing Watch’. The watch features a somewhat complex design and isn’t as minimalist as the other watches featured throughout the collection. The 40mm mecha-quartz features a tropical dial – a rare and prestigious feature in watch history. The watch has all the features needed for a sports/adventure lover, such as it being water-resistant for up to 30 metres. However, if there are details you would like changed, the customisation features of Undone can be applied, letting you build the watch you want.
For that watch collector, the quality and aesthetic of the Sport Tropical from Undone makes it incredibly worth it as it will remain timeless.
When purchasing this watch, communication and customer service was truly efficient. Furthermore, the watch had free shipping and came quite quickly, which is an always appreciated feature in a website. While the User Interface of the website was lacking (the scroll was impossible to work out), that doesn’t hinder the reliability of the company or the quality of the products. Overall, I was very happy with Undone. The customisation is truly a much-loved feature and the collaboration with other designers and animators created fun, yet elegant watches.
