Dendy and Foxtel have teamed up to bring the world a “more sustainable distribution strategy” for niche feature and documentary films by launching an innovative new distribution model.

The idea behind this new model allows the two powerhouses to launch new movies ‘on demand’ one week after the cinema release – you enjoy the cinema experience in the comfort of your home!

The growth of digital adoption provides a significant opportunity for on demand delivery to add real and sustainable value to the content ecosystem for filmmaker, exhibitors and consumers – whilst maintaining theatrical exhibition as the ‘gold standard’.

“This business model which we are branding Dendy Marquee will offer consumers more choice, accessibility, and immediacy in the consumption of quality specialty content”, said Greg Hughes, CEO of Dendy/Icon Film Distribution.

Growth in digital adoption provides a significant opportunity for on demand delivery to add real and sustainable value to the content.

Foxtel’s Director of Content Ross Crowley said, “Foxtel is excited to be a part of this initiative to bring selected movies into Australian homes even sooner. We love going to the movies, and we love when movies come to us.”

The first film released under the new model is Kriv Stenders’ Australia Day, released today on September 21st, then available one week later on ‘express from cinema’ in Foxtel Store and Dandy Direct on September 27.

The film, Australia Day, takes place over one day in Brisbane with the fascinating story told during the controversial national holiday.

It intertwines the stories of three Australians from diverse backgrounds – the film expresses multiculturalism and facing issues of racism, oppression, and violence.

More information can be found on Australia Day here. Make sure you tune in next week for the first ever viewing via the express from cinema model.
