74 Zap the Flab with Fitbit (2)Whether it’s to get that beach body you’ve always wanted, to fit into that little black dress or to incite some jealousy in your ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend, getting fit has always been a hard objective to stick to no matter what the ultimate goal. The excuses are many and the same – “I have no time”, “I work too much”, “gym membership is too expensive”… or perhaps many of us are not acknowledging the hard truth, “I am lazy”. However, perhaps what we all need is a new motivator, a refreshing push in the right direction, and the gang at Fit Bit Inc. are more than happy to fill that role.

Coming all the way from San Francisco, California, Fit Bit’s mantra is to help people lead healthier, more active lives. Through a combination of simple functality and an emphasis on smart thinking, the Fitbit Zip and Fitbit One are two products dedicated in doing just that.

For a smaller price of $69.95 RRP, the Fitbit Zip is a shiny pebble that measures and records the distance you have travelled, the calories burned and the time of the day. It is so lightweight that its presence almost goes unnoticed while being carried, or while hooked over belts or sport tanks in its silicone-covered clip. However, the Zip’s colour of either black, white, blue, green and pink means it is also trendy enough to seamlessly blend in with everyday wear. The information recorded by the Zip syncs automatically with your computer or phone for easy access to personalised statistics and meal log inputs. The more active you are during the day, the more happy the face on the Zip’s screen.

The Fitbit One is the oblong sibling with the bigger brain. At $119.95 RRP each, it has all the previous features of the Fitbit Zip but with impressive additions. The screen is now illuminated by LED, and the Fitbit One uses an altimeter to take into account steepness in walking to estimate calories burned, and also tracks the quality of your sleep. Once again all information syncs to your computer or phone with interesting presentations of the data. Additionally, both conveniently run on battery power, with the Fitbit One lasting for up to a week on a full charge.

For health conscious individuals lacking the luxury of time, the Fitbit Zip and Fitbit One is the perfect virtual personal trainer that is equally cute to look at as it is useful. Pick one up for yourself or for a friend for Christmas, and see where small changes in your lifestyle can take you.
