If there was a medal for creativity, Sony would definitely be the winner. There hasn’t been as much innovation in the consumer technology frontier as can be seen in Sony’s new VAIO Tap 20.

The Tap 20’s most distinguishing feature is it’s 20 inch touch screen. Compared to any other tablet on the market, this screen and its heavier weight of 5kgs is staggeringly massive. Although big enough to fit into the PC desktop and laptop category however, the touch screen feature, battery, and the portability of the Tap 20 keeps the device unique and avant-garde.

47 The Sony VAIO Tap 20 2Whether labelled a tablet, or all-in-one touchscreen PC, the Tap 20 brings to the table some exciting new possibilities for both families and businesses.

The 20 inch touch screen accommodates the Windows 8 interface with 10 finger sensors. Resolution is bright and vibrant at 1600 x 900. What comes first to mind are the creative games that will be able to take advantage of the screen size. Multiplayer games where children (the whole family even!) can utilise all areas of the screen, is but one of many examples. You need not worry about children damaging the device during usage however, as the device is well protected by a dense plastic shell and is heavy enough to prevent picking up and throwing around.

The adjustable stand also allows for a variety of viewing angles but is also able to be used while laying flat. When teamed with the bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the Tap 20 is more than capable for personal and office functions while still providing, once again, the freedom of portability and choice of work space. Furthermore, the Intel Core i5-3317U processor and either a choice of 6GB RAM or 4GB RAM, provides ample support for a powerful and smooth running system.

Although arguably lacking in pragmatism in some situations, the Sony VAIO Tap 20 is nevertheless an intriguing specimen. It is an interesting combination of a number of desirable features of the tablet and the PC, such as portability, image, function and fun.

The Sony VAIO Tap 20 comes at a standard price of $1499. For more information on the full Sony range click here.
