Winter holidays are usually just a complete dream, as cold as they may be. They are pretty, white, snowy and have a sense of warmth and romance about them, the perfect picture of a winter wonderland. From the lovely Paris or London to the New Zealand slopes or an Australian snow trip, as beautiful as it may be, prepare to bundle up. Of course, do this all in nothing but style.
It’s much easier to pack for a holiday in the tropics than it is for the snow or winter destinations. You don’t want to overdo your suitcase with unnecessary items that do nothing but take up space (this is very hard!), so start planning your packing list.
It’s best to start with the inner layers of the whole outfit then work your way outwards. When packing your pieces, try to stick to a colour palette that will work throughout the whole trip (neutral tones are always best). Here are my essentials for winter trips…
1)Black Leggings – a pair that are strong and can be layered upon.
2)Dark Fashion-Forward jeans – to take you from day to night and also be a staple piece for the rest of your luggage.
3)Long-Sleeve Tee – in a neutral tone to layer on top of and won’t draw too much focus when seen.
4)Chunky Knit – that looks relaxed and cosy, yet fashionable at the same time.
5)Trench Coat – one that polishes the look and will shield off the strong winds and icy air.
Once you have the basic essentials packed, you will find that winter fashion is all about layering to create a fashion-forward look that keeps you warm and in style at the same time. When you put yourself into your winter-styled outfit, the next step is to accessorise with the appropriate pieces. In winter, accessories are less about statement jewels and more about functional pieces that will work with your outfit to cover you from the cold. Your essential winter accessories should include…
1)Thick Scarf – tightly knitted will keep you cosy, cashmere will stand the test of time.
2)Leather Gloves – will keep your hands and fingertips from feeling a level of frostbite.
3)Trapper Hat – if you are feeling a little Eskimo-esque, if not…
4)Beret Beanie – is definitely your more girlie option.
Though a bag may not be so essential for warmth, it is surely convenient for carrying around your other travel essentials; camera, water, bottle of water and keys. A cross-body satchel is your best bet as it is small and carried around easily, without being in the way or adding unwanted bulk to your body.
Of course, no winter outfit is complete without a pair of high-quality pair of boots. A pair of flat, black, leather boots are ideal for daytime whereas lace-up, wedged, ankle boots work well for a winter night out, along with some thick, cosy socks.
By packing these winter essentials in your suitcase, you are sure to look on-trend whilst enjoying your winter holiday!
