Bathrooms have been a space of privacy and beauty for centuries. From the ancient bathhouses of Greece to modern-day sanctuaries of cleanliness and architecture, Kohler has represented this in their new range An Oasis of Artistry.
Kohler’s bathrooms have become their latest space to benefit from a fresh kind of craftsmanship – an area where art and artisanal skills come to the fore in our daily self-care routines.
The basin is at the centre of a bathroom and has soared from a utilitarian receptacle for water to a piece of aesthetic beauty where materials, colour, pattern and texture create a visual attraction with light and water.
The Artist Editions have been around in Kohler for a while now and aim to create unique collections of beautiful basins, using raw materials and coloured glazes to make individual pieces, just as art does.
Kohler now has five designs in the market that are incredibly popular, two which are made from spun glass. The basins are reminiscent of vintage designs from the renaissance time period, with a distinctively modern aesthetic also, making their pieces natural choices for interior design. Here are some of their remarkable pieces.
Briolette
A faceted glass vessel basin, inspired by precisely cut precious stones. Available in four colours – Ice, Dusk, Dew and Doe – the light-reflecting facets of the generously proportioned basin create both colour and movement. A fantastic choice for luxury bathrooms.
Kallos
Another popular glass basin is the Kallos Spun Glass Basin. An under-counter model, whos distinctive model is reminiscent of fine crystal. The basin’s clever design creates a visual perception of incredible depth while the intricate faceting obscures any view of toiletries that may be stored within the vanity. The basin would fit well into homes adorning a art deco aesthetic, such as The Great Gatsby.
Dutchmaster Brush Floral
The newly released basin Dutchmaster Blush Floral Basin is inspired by none other than Dutch architecture from the 17th century. It’s almost gothic aesthetic, creates a visual splendour with its big, bold, lush florals on a deeply dark, moody background. Available in both round and rectangular configurations, this vessel basin works particularly well with many of Kohler’s metallic tapware finishes such as rose gold, titanium and brushed nickel. Another great choice for homes adorning vintage aesthetics.
Derring Wading Pool
This basin evocative of Greecian bathhouses adorns the beauty authenticity of handcrafted ceramics. It works fantastically with stone and timber finishes and features a rarely used rutile mineral glaze. The Derring’s unique textured patterning creates an ever-changing palette of light reflective neutral tones. This basin could fit into any home modern or vintage, as it has versatile features.
The Empress Bouquet
The Empress Boquet isn’t an actual basin but can be applied to existing basins to make a one-in-a-kind work. The Empress Bouquet is available on both the Conical Bell Vessel basin and the rectangular Kathryn under the counter basin and is a modern interpretation of 18th-century Chinese print work. The intricate detailing, with gold and metallic highlights, is applied by hand, creating slightly different variations and a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork. This is perfect for someone wanting something a true unique basin.
