VIVID has always been known for its amazing light shows, which are attended by thousands every year. The Sydney VIVID festival delights countless people with its innovativeness and high tech displays that bring the entire city to life every winter. At its core, VIVID is a gathering of the best minds in design of all disciplines and VIVID 2015 continues the tradition of unearthing the next general of design talent.

This year 5 different designers have been selected as winners of VIVID 2015 at the VIVID Awards Ceremony held at Décor + Design in Melbourne. Winners are selected for their skill and uniqueness of their designs. Categories span from market ready products to prototype furniture and lighting design. The winners receive Award of Excellence in Design, prize money, media exposure and industry feedback. The judging panel of the industry’s best had over 90 finalists to choose from.

The winners of VIVID 2015 are:wine_stool_gabriella_aliwarga

Gabriella Audrey Aliwarga, RMIT University (VIC) Wine Stool

Audrey studies Industrial Design and is particularly passionate about furniture design. She focuses on furniture that is simple and compact without compromising on functionality. Her submission to VIVID is the Wine Stool which is inspired by the form and relationship of a cork and wine bottle. It is manufactured and designed in Melbourne with hand-turned wooden tops and assembled without fasteners, screw or glue in reclaimed maple wood, powder coated steel and outdoor polish.

Richard is a furniture and lighting designer that is strongly influenced by his love of  geometry and West Australian coastal  childhood. Richard’s design has its basis in material experimentation and research. For  VIVID he has created Agave Credenza  which swaps traditional timber veneers for a textured veneer of hand cast acrylic tiles.

Peter Milligan, Central Institute of Technology (WA) counterpoint_light_peter_milliganCounterpoint Light

Despite Peter’s affinity for simple forms, he draws his inspiration from people. As a product designer, ceramic artist and social idealist, his work entrenches the value of social change and disruption of the status quo. For VIVID Peter submitted the Counterpoint Light, a task light made for the home or office. Featuring adjustable height and direction capabilities, the Counterpoint Light is made of coloured laminates of Memphis, unglazed ceramic, carbon fibre and 3D printed plastic.

Alexandra Reid (NSW) Reiding Pendantreidling_pendaant_alexandra_reid

Alexandra graduated from Sydney TAFE Design Centre in Enmore in the area of Sculpture and Product Design. Alexandra is passionate  about designs that are unique and practical yet sophisticated and has since moved into a role at BSeated Global. She is always exploring  new manufacturing techniques and sustainable materials. Her VIVID submission is the Reiding Pendaant, a lamp that is rich in conflicting  textures and rounded curves with tightly compressed pages and steel.

The Winners and all Finalists will be showcased throughout Decor + Design from 16-19 July 2015 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
