Ask any professional road cyclist about what features they most highly favour in a road bike, and lightness and sturdiness are two that will most certainly be high on their list.

The engineers at SCOTT are used to pushing boundaries, doing just that with their newest professional road bike, the Addict R3 for the serious cyclist.  Extreme lightness was a priority in the design and manufacture of the Addict R3, with a large frame weighing just 830 grams. Putting this into perspective, Scott has shed approximately 120 grams on its predecessor, the CR1. This achievement has astounded cycling enthusiasts and professionals alike, making it amongst the lightest bike frames in existence.

To accomplish such an extreme weight reduction, an alternative manufacturing strategy was used, known as ‘Integrated Moulding Process.’ IMP involves producing the top, bottom and head tubes in one step, ultimately reducing the amount of material used by 11%. Furthermore, carbon fibre has been used on the ‘braze-on’ front derailleur mount and cable stops, as well as on the tips of the fork of the bike, in order to shave some weight and maximize speed.

Its featherlight weight is not the only standout feature on the Addict R3. The bike is also surprisingly sturdy, with additional stiffness in the lower bracket allowing better grounding and balance. A new ‘HMX’ composite has been used in the head tube junctions, which SCOTT claims is 20% stiffer than material used in the CR1.  This means that every tap of pedaling effort is transferred instantly into amazing acceleration and climbing prowess, granting the cyclist a highly responsive ride.

Small geometry changes have been made from the CR1, to appeal to experienced riders who value a comfortable, stretched out position. This change included the shortening of the head tube to allow a more aerodynamic riding position, and slackening of the seat tube angle.

With all of the advancements made to the Addict R4, it proves it deserves its place at the top of the market.

SCOTT is a leader in the development, manufacturing, sales and marketing of biking, wintersports, motorsports and running equipment. For detailed viewing visit: www.velosophy.com.au
