Picking the right lounge setting can be somewhat difficult, especially if this is your first home. Choosing a piece too small can leave your room uninviting and bland, whilst a lounge too big can be overcrowding. So, how do we find the perfect lounge for your room?
It all boils down to proportions. A number of things must be included in this decision, but if you don’t acknowledge the size of your room in relation to its furniture, it simply won’t work.
Consider a small lounge room in an apartment. Limited space is the obvious factor, but as bedrooms are often scarce, this lounge may double as a bed and in that case size should not go overlooked. If this is the case, perhaps choose a three seater lounge, opposed to a double and a single chair. This will give you more space and allow your guests to comfortably ‘crash’ on your couch. Combining with a small coffee table and/or TV stand will make your room practical and accessible.
If you are lucky enough to have a larger room to occupy, the same consideration of proportions is necessary. Rooms with wide blank walls are often an issue, so a longer piece of furniture may be required. A three and two seater lounge work best when positioned at an adjacent angle. This creates a smaller space within the room, giving the area a more homey feeling. You may have to accompany your lounges with a decent sized coffee table, but ensure not to go over board and take away from the natural flow of the room. There is nothing more awkward than having to navigate your way through a badly planned lounge room.
Contrast works best, if you have dark walls, choose a lighter shade in your lounge room set and vice-versa. If all else fails remember PC; proportion, combination and collaboration.
