Just like you style yourself in particular outfits suitable for everyday wear, a special occasion or dress yourself up in something new simply to experiment with a current trend, you set a ‘look’ for yourself, an image and a sense of personality is evident in your outfit. If you do this with fashion, it makes sense to do it to your home too, right?
Styling your home can be stressful and draining at times when there is paintwork to be done, furniture to be purchased, objects to be moved around, wall art to be placed neatly on the wall, the search for the perfect rug for the living room or adding those finishing touches that give a welcoming, personal feel to your home. Though at times it can all be difficult, though if you keep positive and take the time to search for exactly what you want, you can easily make your space into your dream home!
When shopping for basic furniture sets, feature pieces that make a statement (chairs, couches, artworks, etc.) special home-wear extras and anything else you may have in mind, remember that the larger stores do not always have what you want, you do not necessarily always have to shop in the shopping centre. Why not try the weekend markets?
Living in Sydney, you will find that you have such a wide range of places to go with amazing one-off, customised or unique pieces so easily available to you. I’m referring to the markets – Paddington, Bondi, Glebe, The Rocks, your local markets and pop-up stalls. Most of these stalls within the markets are up-and-coming designers or those who are already established and selling their products at a fraction of the price, compared to the usual shopping centre home-wear and furniture stores and it’s great to be supporting Australian designers.
I personally have a Saturday addiction to Paddington markets, located in Paddington Sydney at the local primary school. Every Saturday from 10am, no matter what the weather, 200 stalls are all set up with a range of Australian made goods on offer; home-wear, furniture, artworks, fashion, jewellery, food and random finds are what these stalls all consist of. All you need to know can be found at www.paddingtonmarkets.com.au – happy home styling!
