Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Korean based multinational corporation Samsung have brought forward a new addition to it’s line of 10.1 inch tablets – the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

The Tab 2 10.1 has a similar plastic feel to it’s predecessor, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, with a slight gain in weight that is virtually unnoticeable. The silver bezel and speakers on the right and left of the tablet however, are a new addition, and perhaps a response to Apple’s controversial claim for breach of patent. The sound quality is crisp and clear, and the speakers have been positioned in such a way that has ensured natural hand positioning on the device is not awkward, and does not obscure the sound. The size of the tablet also accommodates for a headphone jack, a microSD card slot, and for 3G models, a SIM card slot.

The LCD screen of the Tab 2 10.1 remains the same as the previous model, with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and 149 pixels per inch. This gives a vibrant display that does not lose it’s intensity at different viewing angles or orientations. Coupled with the Tab 2 10.1’s VGA front camera and 3 mega pixel rear camera, displaying and viewing content such as photographs, videos and movies on this tablet is sure to be an enjoyable experience at all times.

The hardware within the tablet is reflective of the Tab 2 10.1’s lower price tag of roundabout $399AUD (for base models). The Tab 2 10.1 runs on a 1 GHz T1 OMAP 4430 dual-processor and has 1GB of RAM. Nevertheless, this is more than enough power for the smooth functioning of standard processes on the tablet, including web surfing and running and switching between apps. Additionally, the task manager icon allows for easy removal of apps running in the background, with Samsung also including a handy screen shot button.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 may not add a whole lot to in terms of innovative features to be worth the upgrade for some. However, for the affordable price, larger screen and user-friendly function, it is a more than fitting start for anyone looking to snab their first 10inch portable tablet.
