Dogshare allows you to match your pup with the perfect companion to care for them while you’re away and it’s absolutely free. Are you forever feeling guilty for placing your puppy into a kennel or asking family members to look after them when you go away on holidays? It’s not easy leaving a loved one behind, but it’s even harder when you’ve got to pay exorbitant fees to keep them well looked after. We have the perfect solution.
As Australia’s first dog-sharing website, the growing online community allows like-minded and loving dog owners from nearby neighbourhoods to connect with one another and exchange services that benefit the care of both pets – including “dog sitting” while you’re on vacation.
Mum and dog lover Jessica Thomas founded the Dogshare company. Jessica felt guilty about her constant workload which made it difficult to take her dog, Duke, on his recommended twice-daily walks. So instead of despairing, she started one of the latest and greatest websites in Australia. Now other dog owners offer to trade dog-walking duties, vacation-sits or doggy day-care.
“Many people are reluctant to go on holidays simply because they can’t take their dogs with them and they don’t feel comfortable leaving them in kennels or burdening friends and family with puppy sitting requests,” says Jessica. “I developed Dogshare so people could rest easy, knowing that their dog was in loving, capable hands while they enjoyed a holiday,” she adds.
Aside from the cost, which is minimal, the Dogshare site also creates a sense of community among pet lovers in your neighbourhood. Setting up a profile is so simple. Members can upload an image of their dog with its size, age and temperament and search other member profiles to find the perfect match for their pooch and required needs. Through the site, members can contact one another directly and organise a meet up to ensure a good canine and human pairing.
“It has been such a weight off our shoulders to know we can take a family holiday and be assured that Duke is in safe and loving hands while we’re away,” says Jessica. “And that’s precisely why I developed the site, because I know this is a hardship every loving dog owner faces when they decide to go on vacation,” she adds.
