MINI has just created a unique, yet exciting opportunity for all artists to jump start their very own creative careers, as lockdown conditions begin to cease, by holding an amazing art car competition in Brisbane. MINI has partnered up with the Brisbane Powerhouse to hold this creative completion, the winner will get a one month drive in a personally designed car, along with our performing arts vouchers.

So you may be asking yourself what exactly it is that you have to do to enter in this exciting opportunity… The Brisbane Powerhouse and MINI are inviting artists, designers and creators to interpret their own individual ideas onto a MINI 3-door hatch. However, there is a theme that artists must follow… The theme that artists must interpret onto the car is, “Power Up”.

“We’re hoping to see a design that captures the creative spark of reinvention, and that spirit of unexpectedness and irreverence that MINI is so known for,” says Mr Anthony Alafaci, Dealer Principal at Brisbane MINI Garage.

The chosen theme, “Power Up” was chosen specifically to raise awareness for the 20 year-old institution as it starts to reopen its doors, and to highlight MINI’s latest Electric Hatch. The Electric Hatch follows with an iconic design with the latest 21st century features. The car is also packed with clever touches to make your driving experience fun and effortless.

By entering, in this creative completion, participants will not only just have the chance to add this artistic milestone achievement to their portfolio, but they will also have the chance to win the opportunity to drive their very own custom-designed art MINI for one month. The winner will also be able to take part in an exclusive photoshoot with their MINI, and receive a gift voucher worth $200. The gift card can ideally be used to enjoy Brisbane Powerhouse and the many future presentations that will go on there.

Brisbane
The brisbane powerhouse

“The stories we tell are built on partnerships and collaboration and we hope this competition encourages people to continue to support this great icon of Brisbane arts and culture,” concluded Kris Stewart.

Over the years, MINI has been no stranger to playing “dress up”… Celebrities, designers, and artists
alike have all been known to give MINIs a makeover unlike any other. Superstar David Bowie created a mirror plated MINI in 1999 to celebrate the company’s upcoming 40th birthday. The designer, Paul Smith, also made his mark that very same year, when he revealed a car featuring his
signature stripes in a total of 86 different shades and colours. The mirror plated classic Mini, made famous by the one and only David bowie, was originally designed to reflect everything around it, so that the owner effectively became a part of the car.

This art competition really is an opportunity for the public to get involved in community initiatives after months of isolation and lockdown. It has also especially been designed to reignite the community’s creative spark and the many artists of Brisbane, it is a great way to express your own personal art whilst designing it for a unique competition. Overall in the 2018/19 financial year the Brisbane Powerhouse welcomed at least 1229 local artists, presented a total of 55 premieres and has developed, commissioned or presented a total of 17 new locally made works.
