The Hyundai IONIQ 5N marks a bold entry into Australia’s high-performance electric vehicle segment—a powerful fusion of motorsport DNA and electric innovation. As Hyundai’s first-ever all-electric "N" model, it's tailored for enthusiasts who want racetrack prowess and everyday usability in one sleek, high-tech package.

A New Benchmark for Electric Performance

Underneath its striking silhouette lies a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system offering a staggering 448 kW of power and 740 Nm of torque in standard mode, and surging to 478 kW and 770 Nm when N Grin Boost is activated . That means 0–100 km/h sprints in just 3.4 seconds—matching supercars like the Ferrari Roma and Lamborghini Huracan.

To harness this force, Hyundai equips the IONIQ 5 N with a suite of performance-focused features: N Launch Control, N Torque Distribution, N Pedal, and an electronic limited-slip differential, along with race-grade modes and virtual gearshift tech via N e-Shift and N Active Sound +.

Track Ready, Road Smart

Built for endurance as much as speed, the IONIQ 5 N’s enhanced 84 kWh battery is designed to sustain high-performance driving—complete with N Race ‘endurance’ mode and N Track Maps to log lap times and optimize performance. Despite its power, it maintains respectable energy efficiency: a non-track driving range of around 448 km, and ultra-fast recharging from 10–80% in just 18 minutes when paired with a 350 kW charger.

Priced for the Electrifying Elite

Launched in Australia in March 2025, the IONIQ 5 N carries a premium starting price of approximately $110,383 before on-road costs. While steep, it’s in line with other electrified performance contenders and even slightly undercuts some petrol-powered rivals.

Balanced Practicality with Performance Appeal

Beyond its performance credentials, the IONIQ 5 N maintains the IONIQ 5’s spacious, tech-rich interior. Highlights include a futuristic cockpit, advanced safety features, and Hyundai’s smart connectivity suite for a comfortable, high-tech daily drive. Early reviews praise its unique blend of family car sensibility and supercar-level excitement.

What Australian Experts Say

Motoring media have been unanimous: the IONIQ 5 N delivers electrifying thrills wrapped in everyday functionality. The Australian declared it “the most exciting EV I’ve driven,” citing its synthetic gearshifts and hard-hitting performance. Others praised its dual nature—“blistering performance” in a practical crossover body. Jeremy Clarkson even awarded it four stars, calling it a “refreshing, fun-to-drive electric vehicle” despite its high price. TechRadar included it in a roundup of EVs proving that “electrification doesn’t mean boring”.

Final Verdict

For drivers seeking supercar thrills without sacrificing practicality, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is a standout in Australia’s EV landscape. It packs true performance EV capability—racetrack dynamics, blistering acceleration, and enduring power—into a versatile SUV format that’s just as at home at school or shopping as on the circuit.

While premium in price, its innovative hybrid of everyday usability and electrified excitement offers a compelling choice for enthusiasts ready to experience performance driving—reinvented for the electric age. For more information please visit IONIQ 5N
