Volvo’s vision is to preventing injury and death in Volvo cars by 2020. The Volvo XC90 is an exceptional example of the manufacturer’s success; after 12 years in the making it is a culmination of both cutting edge technology and the company’s passion for keeping people safe on the road.
Perhaps the most impressive feature of the new vehicle is the monitoring mode which enables the car to follow the vehicle in front while controlling the acceleration and braking.
Although this is only able to be used in low speed situations, it is a remarkable feature which is testimony to the values and vision of the company to keep their customers safe. The City Safety technology is a standout feature, the XC90 also scored full points for the NCAP Autonomous Emergency Braking Car to Car rear-end test (AEB City & AEB Urban).
The XC90 also scored 100% in the Safety Assist category and integrates advanced pedestrian protection functionality that independent safety regulators have yet to add to their testing protocols. This feature has the ability to detect vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians during the day or night. The new model also has a focus on ‘user-friendly functionality’. The interior is more spacious and flexible than the previous model thanks to suggestions from owners of the 2012 model.
Kevin McCann, Volvo Car Australia Managing Director says, “We are the first car manufacturer to surpass the criteria that Euro NCAP has applied to the AEB Interurban and City testing procedures”. With such impressive developments being made to their line of vehicles it is no wonder that Volvo remains the leader in car safety innovation.
