This is a pioneering bike design/build competition that brings together high-level design firms with American bicycle craftsmen to create the Ultimate Urban Utility Bike – the next wave bicycle for the everyday rider. The project doesn’t aim to create a designer bike, instead the challenge is to create an urban bike to be used on the streets.
The programme provides an independent platform outside the industry to spark innovation and creativity. It is a challenge to designers and bike craftsmen to innovate through collaboration. Bringing these elements to together encourages consumers to make design a part of their daily experience.
Five teams participate in this challenge: One team each from Chicago, New York City, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle. They all work from the same same design brief – and develop their idea of the new urban bike.
This year’s winner is the team from Seattle—congratulations to TEAGUE x SIZEMORE BICYCLE for creating the Denny—a bike design that captured the imagination of so many people.
The Denny wowed voters with its ingenious handlebar lock design, unique fender system, automatic shifting and modern styling.
Manufacturing partner, Fuji Bikes, will be producing the Denny, which will then become available on the retail floor. Look out for the real live version.
