Oscar Wylee, Sydney’s answer to chic, high quality eyewear is one of the few labels sporting a price tag that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Having been around for only three years, the budding label has mass appeal with young professionals, trendsetters and value-seekers alike. The Oscar Wylee look is best described as clean but offbeat, and with quality that rivals eyewear from the mainstream brands (they are sourced from the same manufacturers).

Oscar Wylee imported its unique business model to Australia to service a demand in the market for better quality eyewear that doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars. Consumers now expect more variety and better priced eyewear that don’t compromise on quality. The company operates a free home trial system where you can pick five pairs of glasses to try out at home before opting to pay for your selections or return them. With its clever marketing and astute choice of brand ambassadors, Oscar Wylee has a promising future ahead of it.

The opening of a new Oscar Wylee store in Chatswood Sydney in early October was a no-brainer – many of its customers are based on Sydney’s North Shore. To coincide with the opening, Oscar Wylee enlisted social media talent Yan Yan Chan as its style muse. Says Yan, “Making sure the frames work for your face shape and suits your personal style is no easy feat. That’s why I like how affordable Oscar Wylee is because I can just grab a bunch of frames and rotate them every day.”

Like its poster girl, the Oscar Wylee team are young, bright and optimistic. Tucked away in the shade of Sussex St, the original Oscar Wylee showroom is a converted heritage building that was once a primary school. The team work in a spacious open-plan layout that echoes the clean minimalism of the brand’s aesthetic where they provide detailed client handling and stack orders up to be sent out.

Thanks to Oscar Wylee, glasses are now affordable enough to be able to be changed around according to your mood or outfit. Although not the first of the do-gooder companies, Oscar Wylee’s customers have even more to feel great about – every pair of frames purchased by a customer is matched by Oscar Wylee with a donation to help someone in need to access affordable eyecare.
