With Passive Safety the prominent feature of the collection, the 1959 model was the world’s first car to feature a safety body. Developed by Mercedes-Benz engineer Bela Barenyi and patented in 1951, the experienced leading designer constructed a three part body. It featured a high-stability passenger department and crumble zones at the front and rear of the car.
