The Garvin Institute of Medical Research run campaign officially kicks off today with this year’s Ambassadors: fashion influencers Sara Donaldson (Harper & Harley), Eleanor Pendleton (Gritty Pretty) and Neale Whitaker (editor-in-chief Vogue Living). They join International Ambassador George Kotsiopoulos in raising global awareness for what is intended to be the ‘Most Wearable and Shareable’ campaign ever.

This year’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer ambitions are high: the aim is to take the message globally and leverage digital and social media through its ambassadors to drive the FTBC campaign further than ever. Through social media, Sara, Eleanor and Karen will be urging their followers to wear the FTBC t-shirt in their own unique style and share a selfie. Channel E! Fashion Police celebrity stylist George Kotsiopoulos says, ““More than 12,000 Australian are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and the earlier the cancer is detected, the better the outcome. The Garvan Institute is one of Australia’s largest cancer research groups and all funds raised from this t-shirt go towards hopefully one day eradicating this disease.”

“Almost everyone knows someone close to them that has been affected by breast cancer. It’s so important for us to do whatever we can to support the research that goes into this – I feel we’re really, really, really close to finding a solution,” says Harper & Harley’s Sara Donaldson.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer was originally created by Ralph Lauren in 1994 in memory of fashion editor Nina Hyde who died of breast cancer. The campaign is currently active in 14 countries around the world and is the fashion industry’s charity brand of choice. So far $2.7 million has been raised in Australia for breast cancer research. Funds raised from the FTBC campaign will be directed invested in research leg by the Garvan Institute, a leader in biomedical research into some of the world’s major diseases and home to one of the largest cancer research institutes in Australia. Breast cancer is the most common cancer found in Australian women with 1 in 9 Australian women positively diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

The Fashion Targets Breast Cancer T-shirt designed by Karen Walker is now available for purchase online from The Iconic for $50RRP.
