Safety innovation provider Safe Mate, together with Manly Life Saving Club, has launched a pilot program aimed at making Manly the most innovative and safest beach in Australia. Safe Mate was created by surfers with the goal of keeping all Australian beaches safer this summer.

The innovative solution allows first responders to quickly identify the person in distress and access their medical information and emergency contact details in a rescue situation. This is done via wristbands that have been designed for nippers, swimmers and surfers to upload their emergency contact or medical information to Safe Mate’s online platform. Since the wristbands are meant for use in the sea, they are waterproof, lightweight and because they do not use a battery, don’t need to be charged.

In an emergency situation, first responders can use the Safe Mate Professional App to read information from the wristbands and immediately obtain all the information needed to treat someone effectively. All data is securely stored locally in a data centre in Australia and the system is compatible with State Emergency Services, 000 and lifeguard procedures.

Safe Mate has distributed hundreds of wristbands to the Manly Nippers and will provide the professional app, mobile device and training to the Manly LSC.

Manly is known as one of the best and safest beaches in Australia to surf and swim and Safe Mate in partnership with the Manly Life Saving Club brings additional safety support, putting parents’ and rescuers’ minds more at ease.

Ewan Le Bourhis, Founder of Safe Mate says, ‘We created Safe Mate to protect people who find themselves lost, rescued from rough surf or in need of medical attention, and we aim to roll this solution out to every beach in NSW in 2015.’

Not just first responders, every one can help save people. Safe Mate also released its Safe Mate Public App, which allows anyone to scan Safe Mate wristbands and help those in need.
