Shopping The Sales

It’s that time of year again when retailers drop their prices to make the money they are needing before the end of the financial year; where crazy amounts of women (and some men) can be found searching the sale racks, rummaging through the sale tubs before pre-occupying a fitting room and marching straight over to the long queue of others about to purchase their must-have bargain.

During the month of June you can find a good sale going on absolutely everywhere. The easily accessible Westfield Shopping Centre has sales going in the varied chain stores by the likes of Sportsgirl, Cue, Glue Seduce, Peep Toe, Lovisa, Wanted Shoes and many more. Visit The Intersection Paddington for designer discounts with Sass & Bide, Zimmermann and Marnie Skillings as well as other favoured designer labels. Of course boutiques, independent shopping centres and outlets all have some great stores with some seriously slashed prices. If you would prefer to avoid the clustered fitting rooms, the oversized crowds and larger than usual queues you have the convenient option of shopping the sales online. Major online stores mycatwalk.com and frockshop.com have some amazing designer pieces that are just too good!

Of course we can tend to go a little overboard when the sales are on, buying clothes, shoes and accessories simply because they are cheap. If you plan on shopping the end of financial year sales be sure to know what you are shopping for and why you are shopping in these sales. Remember that money is money and just because the certain top you have your eye on is down to a mere $30.00 does not mean you should buy it. Ask yourself: “If this wasn’t reduced by so much, would I still buy it?”

It’s a good idea to make a shopping list of what you hope to buy in this sale season of items that you know you need to stock up on. This is the ideal time to pick up some staples for your wardrobe; basic tees, shirts, sweaters, knits, tailored pants, versatile jacket, a pair of quality flats, boots or heels and a pair of perfectly fitting jeans. Staples can be found almost everywhere during sale time and are pieces that will fill any gaps in your wardrobe, they are a great buy and can be easily found at bargain prices.

If you feel that you already have the essential staple pieces that you will need for a while, take a look at the current trend pieces in stores. These will usually be in grouped promotional sales (2 jackets for $150, or one at the original price) or may be under a percentage discount (all ‘brand’ 20% off). They are still discounted and you will still save money, though it just may not be as much. Don’t splurge too much here, these trend based items will soon move to the sale section, even when they are still in season. Stick to neutral tones, pleated maxi skirts, statement accessories, bold colours that you can use with the ‘colour blocking’ trend, leather skirts or basic pieces that incorporate and mimic a current trend.

Now is also the perfect time to find a discounted designer piece that you have been lusting after but have not been able to purchase because of that price tag. Chances are that now; there is some sort of discount on it…definitely worth taking a look.

Whichever piece you decide to purchase this during this sale make sure that you look for the tell-tale signs of why the item is on sale, try before you buy and check the return policy of the store. With a little common sense you will be able to use the sale time to your advantage and find some genuinely good buys.
