The new Mercedes EQB has what you’d expect from this illustrious brand. Classy looks, plenty of bling, power, and a touch of the futuristic inside. But there are some unexpected innovations that allow for more room, comfort, and most of all an efficient, electrical engine to power you wherever you need to go.
Good Looks
Angular lines lend sophistication, making the EQB worthy of the name Mercedes. Pulling up in this bold SUV is sure to make a statement. A flashing light strip integrates with a solid, black grill. The LED light strip at the back emphasises width. Elegant roof rails in chrome finish the look with sophistication. The luxury and comfort continue inside with soft feel seating and twin 10-inch displays that drive the infotainment system. Mercedes MBUX voice assistant frees up your hands for driving making for a seamless experience. Gold highlights inside and high-tech elements including tubular air vents and aluminium looking details give the Mercedes EQB a modern look.
Family-Friendly
Impressive looks aside, the EQB fits the bill of a family friendly SUV. With the ability to add two additional seats in the back, the EQB has the capacity to fit seven passengers. There’s room for the whole family as well as a few extra friends. Storage room doesn’t suffer for passenger capacity as the seating can be folded down, offering plenty of room for every day storage needs. This flexibility of being able to an additional two seats in the back is sure to meet the needs of any busy family. There’s plenty of room inside, with the high voltage, 70.5-kWh lithium battery tucked neatly below the seats.
A range of safety features helps keep passengers safe with emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control that takes care of blind spots, traffic lights and object avoidance. The 360-degree cameras make visualising hazards from all angles and blind spots a breeze.
A simple kicking motion allows hands free access to the luggage compartment making for easy loading and unloading. Hands free is available inside the EQB as well, allowing use of a number of tasks using a simple voice command. For instance, simply speak, “Hey, Mercedes,” to change the temperature and more.
Performance
The EQB is not only as good as its petrol predecessor, the GLB, its arguable that it performs better in terms of acceleration and handling. Mercedes has done much to make sure this all-electric SUV offers as pleasant a driving experience as any petrol equivalent. Given this, going for a zero CO2 emissions version seems like a no-brainer.
For an SUV, the suspension performs surprisingly well giving a smooth ride. With dual electric motors, one in the front and another in back, and all-wheel drive, this family workhorse is transformed into an off-road champion.
Charging and Range
Within a few hours you can charge your EQB at home or at a recharge station when you’re out and about. With a 250-500 km range for charging, and the ability to charge in half an hour at rapid charging stations, you won’t have to worrying about running out of power.
Models
The EQB comes in two models. The entry level 300 has 255 horse power while the 350 boasts 288. This difference in horse power leads to quite a margin of difference in power with the 300 model taking 6.2 seconds to reach 100k/hr, while the entry level 300 takes 8 seconds to reach the same speed.
Smartphone Integration
Apple Carplay and Android Auto allow you to synchronise your apps from your smartphone to your EQB’s display screen. You and your family can connect with family and friends from the comfort of your car.
Mercedes Benz has been successful in making an all-electric counterpart to its famed petrol equivalent. Buying the all-electric version means you don’t have to worry about losing out all of the good things while also being able to leave a smaller carbon footprint.
