Australians are being encouraged to help fight COVID-19 from their homes by using the new app, NEC iQuarantine, developed by the global technology corporation, NEC.
NEC iQuarantine, is a case management and mobile check-in application that allows users from both, Australia and New Zealand, to record their location and health status numerous times a day on their mobile phone devices.
The NEC iQuarantine app can help Australians and New Zealanders to monitor themselves and provide health information remotely. The app also helps to significantly reduce the burden on the healthcare infrastructure of both countries during this time.
As the COVID-19 crisis began to unfold across the globe, the Head of Innovation and Transformation at NEC Australia-New Zealand, Steven Graham, said, “We’re all aware of the escalating events around us and the potential impact on Australia’s infrastructure and capacity to deliver healthcare services in particular”.
Graham said he, “started working with three organisations to set up a team to run a design and build process to have a solution ready to go before the end of March”. Now due to the collaborative hard work of NEC’s partners at Fronde and Alphero, the app is ready to help Aussies and Kiwis work with health services to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
The NEC iQuarantine application uses the NEC facial recognition software, that was ranked last year as first overall, by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology in its Face Recognition Vendor Test, after it registered the faces of 12 million people.
The app allows users to check-in numerous times a day to confirm, who they are, where they are and their current health status. The NEC iQuarantine app prompts people to check in with features, such as facial recognition technology and push notifications.
When a user notifies to health services on the app that they are ‘ok’, an automatic update occurs in the NEC iQuarantine Case Management Portal. The data storage is secure and provided by Amazon Web Services, which is a global leader in cloud services. Amazon Connect also features advanced artificial technology, which includes chat-bots that can ask and answer basic health-related questions.
People can use the app from the comfort of their home, office, clinic, or even on the road, whilst health service professionals can use the app to gain access into certain insights that could help in saving the lives of thousands of people.
The NEC iQuarantine app is designed to help users track the number of days someone has been in self-isolation for and will alert users immediately with a push notification if there is any change to the COVID-19 alert level and situation in both Australia and New Zealand.
The smartphone app is easy to use for both health professionals and people in self-isolation. Health services and professionals can also use the app in the field as an immediate updating system to case information in real-time.
Steven Graham, The Head of Innovation and Transformation at NEC Corporations (AU and NZ) has said that, “One of the of the biggest risks we face is the prospect of our emergency services and health-related phone lines being overwhelmed”.
The NEC iQuarantine Case Management Portal, allows health services to easily access a person’s individual case information, including the status and priority of people in self-isolation and quarantine. The application has been developed as a “highly-scalable, crowd-first approach, based on a great mobile-first user experience”, says NEC.
