Lost Paradise music festival is back after a sell-out three years here to make your New Years one to remember!

Held from 28th December 2017 to the 1st of January in the picturesque natural surrounds of Glenworth Valley just an hour north from Sydney.

The event is respectfully constructed on ancient land known to Indigenous elders as ‘Paradise Lost’ – hence the name.

Lost Paradise offers an exciting line-up with some of the world’s most epic international musicians and DJ’s.

Not to give too much away here but expect acts like RUFUS and Matt Corby. View the full line-up here!

The main stage Arcadia will be home to indie sounds, while Lost Disco is set to bring the bass with techno and dance music.

Then we have Paradise Club’s DJ sets, which will have you dancing late into the night with local acts and surprise guests.

Two new stages have been added into the swing of things and be sure to take a trip down memory lane with 80’s kitsch, retro beats, bingo, and karaoke.

If you have enough of dancing, nestled by the water the magical Shambala Fields will play host to some of the worlds best yoga practitioners.

Yep that’s right, a music festival with yoga! Now that’s one way to recover from a big day and night of partying!

Now if the music and the yoga wasn’t enough, then you might be interested in the pop up food stores. My-oh-my this really talks to me…

The mix of stall will include the likes of Milky Lane, Bondi’s famed burger bar which will be serving up a selection of exclusive menu items especially for the festival.

A breakfast hangover club will also be available for all the hurting heads every morning.

It doesn’t stop there, but we wont give too much away either. Check out how you can get lost in paradise to say your goodbye’s to 2017 and welcome 2018!

Tickets are now available including 3 or 4 day festival tickets here.

There are only seven Mondays to go until Christmas – can you believe it! It only feels like I was writing last years Christmas gift guides not that long ago…

We have stumbled across CAREGifts again!  So This year we are urging Aussies to give goodwill gifts – not fill rubbish tips in the lead up to Christmas.

An Average Australian spends around $500-$650 on festive gifts but its been estimated $630 million worth of them are turfed in the trash, gather dust, or auctioned online.

Why waste your money on people who already have what they really need!?

Well we have a life-changing gift for that person who has everything this Christmas!

CAREgifts is an online registry of life-changing presents that make an enormous difference to families living in poverty around the world.

CARE Australia Chief Executive Sally Moyle said, “Last year, compassionate Australians spent more than $600,00 on CAREGifts. This is enough to send 8,300 girls in developing countries to school for a year or provide 10,400 families with clean drinking water.”

CAREGift

A range of CAREGifts available different price points makes them an ideal option for any budget.

Just $15 can go a long way and buy a family a chicken, giving them eggs to eat or sell as an income, while $655 can provide a pond for a community so families have enough water to grow crops and vegetables.

CAREGifts solve the dilemma of what to give the person who has everything, so why not offer them a chance to save or enrich the lives of children to get immunised ($25) or covering the cost of sending a girl to school.

Christmas is about giving and helping others around us through selfless acts of kindness. This is the perfect time to give back to others.

For more information of CAREGifts visit the online site and take the chance to make a real impact in the world!

WIFI has become an essential in our homes and the most anticipated question whenever we step foot in a restaurant or café.

We can live without air for three minutes, three hours without shelter, three days without water and three weeks without food. What about WIFI?

In my own first hand experience, I’ve lived in a home without WIFI for three whole months, my workplace has one of the most unreliable WIFI connections ever, and never mind my phone bill that is THROUGH-THE-ROOF!

My initial reaction to this WIFI-less lifestyle was “how will I do anything?!” It’s not a matter of having WIFI or not it’s about functioning in life!

LIFE WITHOUT WIFI

But here I am three months on and I’m still alive gripping a hefty phone bill.

Psychologist, Abraham Maslow, conducted research into his paper “A Theory of Human Motivation”, proposing human beings have five sets of needs arranges in a hierarchy: psychological, safety, love and belonging, esteems and self-actualisation.

Now the question is, do Maslow’s hierarchy of needs manifest today in the digital world?

According to the World Economic Forum Digital Media and Society report, innovations in technology and digital media have altered “the fabric of daily life.” It adds, “People are interacting and connecting with each other in different ways. Their sensibilities and psychologies are changing. Blurring boundaries between private and professional lives…”

Physiological needs: Giving life to our ‘digital twin’

Our fundamental needs for survival like food, air, water and shelter, are the most unquestionable universal needs.

Nowadays, our smartphones have become an extension of ourselves, in turn, so had WIFI.

We now rely on our phones to look for property to live in, order food, and buy clothes.

Safety needs: On cyber threats and digital safety

Maslow’s concept of safety revolved around physical and financial security. Now, we expose our personal information online, so we’ve also placed our digital security a risk.

Thieves aren’t complaining, with so much information online, these robbers can access bank accounts, or hack websites.

In terms of digital security, we have a lot to lose because everything we do is recorded online. It’s terrifying!

Love and belonging needs: Virtual relationships and connections

Communicating and connecting with people from around the world is make possible thanks to the Internet and social media.

In many ways this is one of the best parts of having that connection on your phone beaming at full bars.

Who else’s parents use Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger over regular phone text? Mine do, and it chews my data away. But it gives a sense of connectedness knowing your family member is just on the other end of the chat.

The Internet has opened the door to another realm where we can talk to people who have the same interests digitally through chat rooms, fan pages, and online gaming.

Esteem needs: a freeway of instant feedback

Social media is virtually a drug that boosts your self-esteem. Ever felt a burst of happiness whenever someone likes your photo? Everyone has! In actual fact, it becomes addictive.

This is because in the digital world, acceptance and approval are known as ‘likes’, ‘views’, ‘comments’ and ‘hits’.

The more positive interaction we generate the better it makes us feel. But this can also be a two-lane street where trolls and negative comments can come in causing the opposite effect.

Self-actualisation needs and how we achieve it digitally

In the digital age, mobile social media provides new choices, possibilities, and the ideas for self-actualisation through constant connectivity and reinforcement of social intimacy with distant others.

Grocery shopping is already confusing with so much variety but then consider gluten free, dairy free, low-carb, sugar free, no MSG and all the rest of it, it can become overwhelming, and unfortunately it just got a little worse.

We have known for years that a gluten-free diet is essential for people with coeliac disease, however what we don’t know is some gluten-free products are filling us up with empty calories.

According to Dietician and Culinary expert, Caroline Trickey, the gluten-free diet is not always synonymous with ‘healthy’ and many gluten free products contain ingredients that are high GI.

“Shoppers need to look closely at the labels on their food and determine the nutritional integrity of a product before adding it to their trolley,” Caroline said.

Luckily, Caroline has shared her top tips to master gluten free eating without all the empty calories.

  1. Know your Calories

Empty calories are often misunderstood because people tend to think they are not providing enough calories, when in actual fact it’s the complete opposite. Empty calories do supply energy, quite often too much with no nutritional value.

In turn, this means the more empty calories you consume, the less nutrition you are receiving and these high GI empty calorie foods are quickly converted into sugar which can be easily stored as fat.

Low GI foods are metabolised slower providing a sustained release of energy that keep you full longer. These foods are nutrient dense so you will be getting vitamins and minerals that your body requires.

  1. Look out for the ‘Replacement Ingredient’

Look for ingredients that are overly processed and contain little nutritional value, or names you don’t immediately recognise as foods, so as a complex scientific name or number listed.

With baked goods choose products that contain healthier ingredients such as coconut flour, almond meal and buckwheat.

  1. Learn about the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Believe it or not, the gluten-free isle contains some of the most heavily processed foods in the grocery store!

Fortunately there are companies like The Food Crafters who’s products are healthier, low in GI, high in fibre gluten free options.

Our favourite are their cookie range, which meets nutritional and dietary standards while still maintaining great taste and flavour.

  1. The Food Label is Key

The nutritional label is the ultimate guide for you to make all the right choices when buying gluten free. It will provide all the information you need to figure out if it’s the healthiest product.

Start your check at the ingredients list and make your way around to the nutritional information panel where you can find the 100 gram column to compare gluten free products.

  1. It’s all about Balance

“Anyone who follows a gluten free diet, regardless whether you have coeliac disease, gluten-sensitiveness or not, I encourage you to keep your health top of mind. Be super-vigilant when selecting convenience packaged products and chose wisely.” – Caroline Trickey.
